Draft Grades: Legacy

Overview

If defense wins championships, Legacy may have assembled the perfect roster.

Captain Tyler Vanessen, the reigning BUBL MVP, built a team that embraces versatility and relentless defensive pressure. Every one of his early selections brings two-way value, creating a roster with very few weak links on either end of the floor. While other teams prioritized scoring, TV focused on building a group capable of getting stops first.

Legacy may not have the flashiest roster in the league, but they have the personnel to grind opponents down over 45 minutes. With elite defenders at nearly every position and enough offensive talent to capitalize on those stops, this team should be a nightmare to play against.

Biggest Strength

Elite Team Defense

This is the best defensive roster in the BUBL. Tyler Vanessen and Benjamin Blackman-Smith anchor the interior, while Kyle Estaris, Conrad Esguerra, and Hunter Deschamps give Legacy lockdown defenders on the perimeter. Every lineup they put on the floor will be capable of switching, competing, and making opponents work for every basket.

Biggest Concern

Half-Court Shot Creation

Legacy has plenty of players who can score, but they don't have the same explosive offensive firepower as teams like Precision or Pulse. In close games, they'll need Tyler and Kyle to consistently create quality offense when transition opportunities aren't there.

Best Pick

Kyle Estaris (Round 3)

Kyle was an outstanding selection in the third round. He gives Legacy a true point guard who can score, shoot, facilitate, and defend at a high level. More importantly, he fits perfectly alongside Tyler and Ben, giving Legacy another player who impacts both ends of the floor.

Sleeper Pick

Conrad Esguerra (Round 5)

Getting a former BUBL Champion and Defensive Player of the Year candidate in the fifth round could end up being one of the biggest steals of the draft. After sitting out Season 2, Conrad returns with fresh legs and something to prove, giving Legacy another elite perimeter defender and experienced veteran.

X-Factor

Benjamin Blackman-Smith

Ben has already proven he's one of the league's premier big men, but after being overlooked in last season's awards voting, he'll enter Season 3 with plenty of motivation. If he returns to full strength after hand surgery and plays at his Season 1 level, Legacy's defense could become the best the league has ever seen.

Final Verdict

Legacy didn't chase highlight plays or flashy scorers—they built a roster with a clear identity. Led by the reigning MVP, this team is loaded with defenders, high-IQ players, and competitors who embrace doing the little things. While they may not score as effortlessly as some of the league's offensive powerhouses, they'll force opponents to earn every point. If defense truly wins championships, Legacy has every reason to believe they're in the title conversation.
