Captain Jayson Luong took a calculated gamble on upside, and it could pay off in a big way.
After landing explosive wing Ruach Padhal with the fourth overall pick, Jayson surrounded himself with athletic, versatile players capable of running the floor and defending multiple positions. Add in reigning Breakout Player of the Year Salman Khan, along with two potential late-round steals in Dilan Atanga and Sean Nicholas, and Voltage may have drafted one of the highest-ceiling rosters in the league.
While several players still have something to prove, this roster is loaded with athleticism, versatility, and players who appear poised for breakout seasons.
Athleticism and Upside
Few teams can match Voltage's combination of speed, length, and athleticism. Ruach, Jayson, Caleb, Frankie, and Dilan all have the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor, making Voltage one of the league's most exciting teams in transition.
Experience and Proven Production
Unlike some of the league's top contenders, Voltage is relying heavily on players whose best basketball may still be ahead of them. While the talent is undeniable, several key contributors have limited BUBL experience, making consistency the biggest question entering the season.
Ruach Padhal (Round 1)
Getting Ruach with the fourth overall pick could prove to be one of the biggest wins of the draft. His combination of elite athleticism and perimeter shooting gives Voltage a player capable of changing games on both ends of the floor. If he lives up to his potential, he'll quickly establish himself as one of the league's premier players.
Dilan Atanga (Round 7)
Dilan falling to the seventh round could end up looking like one of the steals of the draft. Attendance concerns caused his stock to slip, but his ability to score, defend, and compete at a high level is undeniable. If he's available consistently this season, he'll dramatically outperform his draft position.
Salman Khan
After winning the Season 2 Breakout Player Award, Salman enters Season 3 with rising expectations. His shooting, playmaking, and growing confidence give Voltage another legitimate offensive weapon, and if he continues his rapid development, this team's ceiling rises considerably.
Voltage may not have the proven résumé of some of the league's other contenders, but they arguably possess the most untapped potential. Jayson Luong assembled a roster filled with athletic, high-motor players who fit well together and have plenty left to prove. If their young talent develops as expected, Voltage could become one of the biggest surprises of Season 3—and a team no one will want to face by playoff time.
