🌲 STATE OF THE UNION: FORESTLINE

Midseason Report — Season 3

Record: 7–0 | First Half: PERFECT

Seven opponents. Seven wins.

Forestline reaches the halfway point as the BUBL's only undefeated team after completing a clean sweep through the league. Some wins were blowouts, some required adjustments, and their Week 7 overtime battle with Pulse pushed them to the brink — but every game has ultimately ended the same way.

Forestline has been the standard.

🌲 Why They've Been So Good

The numbers are ridiculous.

Forestline is averaging 81.3 points per game while shooting 52.3% from the field and 41.3% from three. Even more impressive is how those baskets are being created: they're averaging 26.3 assists per game, reflecting a team that consistently generates good looks rather than relying on one player to manufacture offense.

And there isn't really one obvious player to stop.

EJ Bantigue leads them at 19.6 PPG, 7.9 REB and 6.3 AST while shooting an absurd 61.2% from the field. Ian Garcia is averaging 15.6 PTS, 11.0 REB and 5.2 AST, giving Forestline another player capable of controlling virtually every part of a game.

Then there's Michael Borines, quietly putting together one of the league's most efficient offensive seasons: 16.3 PPG on 58.7% shooting and 51.0% from three, while also averaging 5.1 assists.

Morgan Atanga has emerged as another major weapon, averaging 15.3 points, 6 rebounds and 2.2 assists — and his Week 7 performance showed that the numbers don't fully capture his value. With Forestline's undefeated record hanging by a thread, Morgan blocked Pulse's potential game-winner at the end of regulation before scoring six of Forestline's eight overtime points, including the winner.

🧱 The Dirty Work

Forestline's stars get attention, but Yas Halkic might be the player who makes the whole construction work.

He's averaging only 6.7 points, but he's pulling down 10.1 rebounds per game — including 4.0 offensive boards — while averaging a staggering 3.0 steals.

Earlier in the season, Yas' availability was one of Forestline's biggest uncertainties. That's no longer the case. He's committed for the remainder of the season, removing one significant question from their second-half outlook.

Wil Turcios gives them yet another shooter at 11.9 PPG and 40.7% from three, meaning there simply aren't many places for a defense to hide.

🏥 The Depth Problem

If there's a crack in the armour, it's becoming increasingly obvious: Forestline is getting thin.

Leo Luu is out for the season with an Achilles injury and his free-agent replacement remains TBD. Mujtaba Saadat is currently dealing with a rib injury, although he's expected to return.

That temporarily leaves Forestline with only six active players.

Mujtaba's eventual return matters beyond simply adding another body. He's averaging 5.2 assists per game, giving Forestline another facilitator capable of keeping their ball-movement-heavy offense functioning when the stars rotate out.

Finding the right replacement for Leo may therefore be one of the most important personnel decisions Forestline makes all season.

⚠️ The EJ Question

And then we get to the elephant in the room.

EJ Bantigue is currently scheduled to be away for the duration of the playoffs.

That's enormous.

Forestline has enough talent that losing one player doesn't suddenly make them ordinary — but EJ isn't just another player. He's their captain, leading scorer and one of their primary playmakers, averaging nearly 20/8/6 on 61% shooting.

That creates a fascinating disconnect in evaluating this team.

If we're asking who has been the best team in Season 3? There isn't much of an argument right now.

Forestline.

But if we're asking who will be best equipped to win three playoff rounds? Suddenly we have to project a version of Forestline that may not include one of the players responsible for getting them there.

That's a very different question.

📈 SECOND-HALF OUTLOOK

The first trip through the league belonged to Forestline.

The second half will be about everybody getting another crack at them.

Opponents now have film. They've experienced Forestline's pace and ball movement. Pulse demonstrated that the Stags can be pushed to the absolute limit. And every matchup now carries the additional motivation of being the team that finally puts a 1 in Forestline's loss column.

Meanwhile, Forestline has something more important to prepare for than an undefeated regular season.

They need to figure out what playoff Forestline looks like without EJ Bantigue.

That might mean larger offensive roles for Ian and Morgan. More creation from Michael. More responsibility for Mujtaba. And potentially a meaningful role for whoever ultimately takes Leo's roster spot.

🌲 MIDSEASON VERDICT

Forestline didn't just survive the first half. They owned it.

They have elite shooting, elite ball movement, size, rebounding, multiple creators and seemingly another player ready to step forward whenever circumstances demand it.

7–0 isn't an accident.

But the goal isn't to be undefeated after seven games.

It's to be holding the trophy at the end.

And for the first time all season, Forestline's biggest obstacle might not be standing on the other sideline.

It might be who won't be standing on theirs.
